Safe surgery starts with accurate information. Even medicines or habits that seem minor can affect bleeding, anaesthesia and healing, so it is important to share everything before surgery.

Medicines and supplements to mention

  • Blood thinners — aspirin, anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs
  • Regular medication — for blood pressure, diabetes and so on
  • Supplements and health products — some can also affect bleeding
  • Anything you have recently started or stopped

Don't stop any medicine on your own — consult the doctor who prescribed it.

Health information to mention

  • Chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart or thyroid disease
  • Eye conditions (glaucoma, dry eye and so on) — for eyelid surgery
  • Allergies and previous experiences with anaesthesia
  • A tendency to keloid scars
  • Previous cosmetic surgery or treatments, and any injected substances

Pre-operative tests are done depending on age and conditions, and a note from an internal-medicine doctor is sometimes requested.

Smoking

Smoking slows healing and can increase the risk of complications. Stopping for about 2–4 weeks is recommended for rhinoplasty, and for about 4 weeks before and after a facelift.

On the day of surgery under sedation

Surgery at Cejong is done under sedation, and in most cases you go home the same day.

  • Follow all pre-operative instructions, including those about eating and drinking
  • Don't drive that day — it is safer to go home with a companion
  • Wear comfortable clothes that open at the front, and no make-up or jewellery

Frequently asked questions

Do I really need to mention vitamins and supplements? Yes. Some supplements can affect bleeding; noting their names makes them easy to check.

Can I have surgery if I have a cold? With a fever, cough or similar symptoms, the surgery date may be moved. Please let the clinic know in advance.
