Eye surgery consultation in Sangmu
Preparing for an eye surgery consultation in Gwangju's Sangmu district? How the double eyelid method, ptosis correction and epicanthoplasty are decided, and the recovery schedule.
Even double eyelid surgery differs with lid thickness, fat, lid-opening strength and epicanthal folds. Here is what an eye surgery consultation at Cejong in Sangmu covers.
What is assessed
- Lid thickness and fat — the basis for choosing buried suture, partial or full incision
- Skin sagging — how much it covers the crease and lashes
- Lid-opening strength — with ptosis, its correction is also considered
- Epicanthal fold — whether epicanthoplasty is needed or better avoided
- The crease you want — in, in-out or out, and its height, simulated in advance with an instrument
Choosing the method
At Cejong, the buried suture, partial incision or full incision method is chosen to suit the eye, and the natural adhesion method is also used where suitable. Ptosis correction is done with an incisional or non-incisional approach, again according to the eye.
Surgery and recovery
Surgery is done under sedation and usually takes about 1 hour. Typically stitches come out at around 5–7 days and eye make-up is possible after about 7–10 days. Contact lenses resume after about 1 week with buried sutures, about 2 weeks with incision, and about 1 month if ptosis was also corrected. Cold compresses are used for about 72 hours after surgery.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to combine double eyelid surgery with ptosis correction? If the lid opens strongly enough, a double eyelid alone may be enough. Whether to combine them is decided after the eyes are assessed.
How is the crease height chosen? At the consultation the crease is simulated with an instrument and chosen together, considering your eyelid and facial proportions.
