Later in life, drooping lids, under-eye bags and a sagging face and neck often appear together. Vision and general health matter as well as appearance, so there is a little more to prepare for the consultation.

Concerns and the matching procedures

Several concerns often overlap, so the consultation separates the causes before making a plan.

Health and medications

Please tell the clinic about all chronic conditions (high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and so on), medications and supplements. Blood thinners such as anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs are especially important; don't stop them on your own — consult the prescribing doctor. Pre-operative tests are done depending on age and conditions, and a note from an internal-medicine doctor is sometimes requested.

Recovery

  • Upper blepharoplasty — stitches come out at around 5–7 days; many people return to daily life within a week
  • Lower blepharoplasty — under sedation, usually about 40 minutes; washing after about 5–7 days, make-up after about 7–10 days
  • Facelift — under sedation for about 3–4 hours, home the same day; office work and daily life after about 3–5 days

Recovery varies; if you have an important event, mention it at the consultation.

A companion and visits

It helps to have a companion on the day of surgery and during early recovery. There may be several follow-up visits, so consider the journey. If the consultation is for a parent, see also What to check before an eyelid consultation for your parents.
