Lower blepharoplasty is surgery for under-eye bags, hollows, loose skin and wrinkles that develop with age. It focuses on changing a tired, older look under the eyes.

When it is considered

  • Under-eye fat bulges out
  • A hollow beneath the bulge looks like a shadow (dark circles)
  • Under-eye skin is loose with many fine lines
  • It is hard to cover with make-up or treatments

How it works

Rather than simply removing bulging fat, it is moved into the hollow to even out the contour (fat repositioning), and loose skin is trimmed if present. Removing fat alone can leave the area looking hollow, so methods are combined according to the condition.

Types of approach

  • Skin-incision lower blepharoplasty — an incision just below the lashes to reposition fat and trim loose skin
  • Conjunctival approach (fat repositioning) — working from inside the lid to reposition fat without a skin incision; considered when there is little loose skin

The method is chosen according to the under-eye area; at Cejong it is done under sedation and usually takes about 40 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Will dark circles improve too? Shadows caused by bulging and hollowing can be expected to improve, but dark circles due to skin pigmentation may not be resolved by surgery.
